How you picked your pet's name

About three years ago, I adopted my dog Arneis from a shelter. However, he wasn't named Arneis at the time; the shelter had given his the name Aurum for some golden spots on his mostly white fur. I never liked that name so I mulled over a new name for a few days. In our first days together, he was a bit of a nightmare. The first night I made the mistake of not crating him when I went to work, and he tore my place apart, and I arrived to find him with his head stuck through the bashed-apart humidifier water chamber. It was awful. I skipped class the next morning to get him a crate. It took him exactly two nights of being left alone in the crate for him to bend the bars enough to escape and leave another tornado in his wake. Oy vey. Anyway, I was a sommelier, and there's this white Italian grape called Arneis, which translates to "little rascal" and seemed apt for his white coloring. Calling him a rascal was a good substitution for calling him worse names, and it stuck!
